XTL wins excellence award for green transportation

XTL Transport Inc. was recently awarded the 2008 Supply Chain and Logistics Association Canada (SCL) Award regarding green practices. Issued by the the award recognizes companies who demonstrate strong environmental leadership and a firm commitment to promoting green transportation standards.

According to Industry Week, XTL's tractor engines typically meet the latest emissions standards. In addition, the company also supports industry efforts through its ecoFREIGHT initiatives, which are aimed at reducing environmental and health impacts of freight transportation through the use of technology.

Some of other best practices by this company include:

- A fleet renewal program that ensures that the average age of equipment is less than two years and no tractor is more than four years old.

- Most of its fleet is equipped with auxiliary power units that virtually eliminate the need to idle engines.

- The company has also implemented a driver training program to increase efficiency and achieve maximum fuel economy.
