Supply Chain Management Review was hosting a webcast last week covering the results of a survey which university of chicago has done in collaboration with Jones Lang LaSalle Americas.
During this survey, they gathered the data from around 500 CEOs throughout U.S., ranging from mid-size firms to Fortune 100 companies, with the objective of finding out how important supply chain is for CEOs. And here comes the gap:

As you can see in the graph, CEOs clearly understand the value of supply chain and its importance; however while the whole company is focused on profitable growth, they ask supply chain people on reducing cost. So the question is how to get the supply chain back on the agenda of senior management.
