This is the third part of Robert Hanfield's talk in PMMS Leadership in Procurement: A Global Perspective in Troubled Times. In this part Robert touches upon issues such as early retirement policies, cash issues and synchronization with suppliers; Generally speaking, he doesn't consider early retirement a great strategy in this economic situation as those are the people who have been in the companies' facilities for a long time and know where the issues and cost saving opportunities are.
Another issue he mentions is the demand drying up: An example mentioned is Caterpillar which its 3 year backlog of orders disappeared over night. Hope you like this part as well.
