Supply chain video: Interview with Haldex VP of Logistics
Filed in archive Supply chain video on September 22, 2008
Haldex AB is a Swedish supplier of breaking systems and other automotive components for industrial vehicle makers and truck companies. Theo Lindqvist, VP Purchasing and Logistics, Group Management, Haldex AB had an interview on the AS-IS sourcing landscape in China and the challenges of doing business in this part of the world. I have brought the first part of his interview for you here.
He highlights some of his company's challenges in homogenization of sourcing processes in all the group's operations and provides some insights on opportunities for improvement in his industry. One of the interesting points I saw in this video was the case of buying components from Chinese suppliers as FOB vs. receiving it in the U.S. or Europe. In despite of the common perception, companies are starting to do the transportation part themselves and use the FOB contracts because they can save millions on export duty for transportation.
In the future posts, I will bring the second part of the interview when Theo talks about issues such as the quality and stability of suppliers and supply cost in China.
