Supply chain education ranking: Penn State becomes No. 1

Filed in archive Education on June 21, 2009

Probably the question of "Which program to choose?" is what many potential supply chain students are facing: Different programs have popped up here and there and many reputable universities are offering supply chain education programs. So AMR Research recently conducted a research to prepare a ranking among universities which offer SCM education in the U.S.. 126 companies were consulted in the process of ranking universities and the programs were analyzed from different aspects like size and maturity of the program, value for the industry, depth of the courses, analytical and problem solving sense in the graduates, etc.

Supply chain education ranking: Penn State becomes No. 1

As you can see from the above figure (full report here), Penn State has become Number 1 in this ranking, followed by universities like Michigan State and Arizona. Smeal (the school of management in Penn State) is regularly included among the top schools in rankings of supply chain programs. As an example a 2005 survey of supply chain practitioners and academics published in Supply Chain Management Review identified Smeal as having the No. 1 supply chain program in North America.

What is surprising me is the relatively low rank of MIT (Number 5) and Georgia Tech (Number 7) which probably urges them to try harder next year. What do you think?
