Filed in archive Special Events on February 11, 2006

A two-day conference that focuses on supply chain issues will be held at Purdue University on Feb. 16 and 17, and managers of local companies are invited to attend.
The conference, titled "Coordinating the Global Supply Chain," is being offered at no charge by the Global Supply Chain Initiative.
Corporate executives and representatives from Purdue's Krannert School of Management will participate in a series of panel discussions on topics that include logistics, intellectual property protection, risk management, strategy and radio frequency identification.
"We're interested in hearing about supply chain and logistics ideas and problems from central Indiana manufacturers," said amanda Thompson, assistant director of the supply chain initiative. "We have resources to offer them in terms of the expertise of our professors and good students for internships and employment."
Steven Akard, director of international development with the Indiana Economic Development Corp., will present a keynote speech at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 on the topic "Managing Risks in the Face of Global Competition."
Companies participating in the panel discussions will include Cummins Inc., Rolls-Royce, Kimberly-Clark, General Motors Corp., Delphi and Phillip Morris.
The global supply chain is comprised of complex networks of suppliers, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and customers in a virtual 21st century assembly line that stretches around the globe.
