Smiths News is setting an example to global businesses with its sophisticated IT supply chain management solutions.
MikroFax reported that, after investing a years worth of profits in developing SAP IT supply chain solutions, Smiths News is now one of the most advanced wholesalers in terms of IT technology, in the world.
The kinds of tasks that are overseen electronically across the supply chain are tracking and tracing deliveries and stock and generating new orders from retailers.
The SAP technology makes this work more smoothly and efficiently. Smiths News is continually looking at supply chain solutions in order to develop the technology even further.
Chris Gibbons of Smiths News, told What PC?: "The whole process of electronic commerce is part of a drive towards simplification, making everyone's business processes as easy as possible."
The company traditionally held and processed data in its data center but new methods of processing this data using SAP need to be figured out if the company wants to remain efficient. Smiths News delivers newspapers and magazines to 22,000 customers and makes 154,000 deliveries a week.
