State of SCM market in Singapore
Filed in archive Interviews on May 1, 2006
(Note: Recently I had an interview with Lauw Kok Keen, Acting Director of the Singapore eSupply Chain Management Council. We had a Q&A about the different aspects of supply chain market in Singapore. In this article, you can read the first part which is about the RFID market).
Q: What is the current state of the supply chain solutions and services (especially RFID) in Singapore?
Keen: multinational corporations (American / European companies) have very advanced SCM solutions in place here in terms of SCM visibility and optimization. About Singapore owned companies, they are only now implementing SCM solution at Level 1 - i.e. e-enabling their order management systems , purchase order, purchase order acknowledgement, ASN etc. Local companies who are supplying components to multinational companies are implementing the RosettaNet standard but this is due to pressure from the MNCs. And at last, RFID: Well, a number of logistics companies are doing pilot projects on using RFID at their back end, they are mainly distribution centers. As a good example, I can mention Carrefour, the French hypermarket retailer, which has implemented a system for the shelf pricing using RFID.
