Smart strategy: Truck companies pay more taxes to increase the quality of road infrastructure
Filed in archive Market Overview on April 19, 2008

Even though the diesel prices are quite high these days, American truck companies are willing to spend even more taxes for building road and other infrastructure.
Bill Graves, president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations, told Logistics Magazine that if all sectors "give a little, we can get a lot" from the upcoming debate over infrastructure funding.
"We believe there needs to be more investment in infrastructure across the board-in all modes," Graves said. "All modes need to be invested in as we go forward." he said.
I think this is a very smart strategy, because it will lock the nation to use this infrastructure in the future (A secure position for the truck industry). Another motivation behind this movement is the need to improve the quality of the roads and highways which will lead to more productivity.
