RFID Technology Applied by Thailand’s Department of Land Transport
Filed in archive News on August 5, 2010

© Nick SaltmarshRadio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is being applied by the Department of Land Transport of Thailand. The technology is aimed at declining the number of lost vehicles, and it is provided as an optional part of the new scheme of yearly payment badge. The intelligent RFID technology will allow the Department of Land Transport to build connections between vehicle data of other organizations.
It's expected that the department will offer the RFID system voluntarily to the public, although the RFID program is not compulsory. If Thai vehicle owners want to have the annual tax payment badge with the RFID technology, then they have to pay an added 120 baht for tax. As part of the RFID system, a smart tag with a RFID chip will be attached to the front mirror of a vehicle. In addition, another smart pass with a RFID chip will be attached to the headlights of the vehicle.
