In the recent years, there has been a shift happening in supply chain strategy area and that's moving from pure cost/efficiency area to include agility, speed, green requirements and service. But unfortunately, this shift hasn't been translated into a change in the existing IT solutions in companies. This is the result of a recent research by Gartner on the alignment between technology and business strategy.

The Gartner has found out that the IT initiatives in companies now should focus on five key areas: Business process agility, data management, analytics and performance management, collaboration and sensory networks.
The starting point for an effective change would be to re-evaluate the IT strategies in the company and to re-assess supply chain vendors to figure out if the existing infrastructure and strategies are aligned with these five themes.
