Pharmaceutical giant establishes a sourcing center in China
Filed in archive Market Overview on July 2, 2007
Well, actually pharma industry was one of the last industries which started to move some part of its value chain to China but they easily got momentum with their movements. One of the last cases is AstraZeneca: Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company is planning to make its new China sourcing center an important part of its global supply chain, top officials from the company said during an interview Thursday.
In the future, AstraZeneca hopes its new China sourcing center, established at the beginning of this year, will account for 90 percent of all future global purchases.
It has been said the company had set up a projective to make the sourcing center achieve total purchases valued at $100 million in 2010.
James Ward-Lilley, president of AstraZeneca China, said setting up the China sourcing center would be just one step in the process to pushing forward AstraZeneca's current "In China for China" strategy to its next level "In China for Global" strategy.
I don't know the details of "In China for Global" Document but it must be really interesting from sourcing point of view on how the company is planning to migrate to east Asia.
