Lucas Group Reports Substantial Hiring Growth in Supply Chain & Logistics
Filed in archive Employment on June 27, 2007
Good news for supply chain people: Lucas Group, an executive search firm, yesterday reported that supply chain and logistics positions are experiencing record growth across nearly every industry. Supply chain and logistics is a more highly-recognized and implemented function throughout companies in recent years versus the past.
"Companies are beginning to realize the importance and necessity of establishing some version of supply chain organization," said Don Riemenschneider, senior recruiter for Lucas Group, Supply Chain & Logistics. "Logistics positions, such as warehousing, distribution and transportation no longer suffice alone. The interlink between all facets of the supply chain are just as important, from the product development and procurement functions through the delivery of the product to the end-user. As a result, certain positions are experiencing faster growth."
As business has evolved internationally and domestically, the need for very specific supply chain disciplines to manage globalization has grown. Growth continues for individuals with global sourcing experience, particularly those who know the factories and capabilities, who can get the product made better, faster and for the right price, and who can create working relationships between the domestic purchaser and the foreign producer.
Complementing the role of global manager is the need for more specialized managers, especially those familiar with import/export, international logistics, customs brokerage and supply chain integration. In addition, the need for more diversity is high. Roles are changing, as women and minorities are becoming a larger part of the workforce, including supply chain and logistics.
