In-transit shipment tracking is still top measure for inventory visibility, research finds
Filed in archive Research on October 17, 2008
Logistics Management Magazine and Sterling Commerce recently conducted a survey among supply chain professionals to see what is the status of inventory management practices in the market. I saw some interesting results when I was browsing the research report and I decided to bring the summary here. The first and most interesting finding was that In-transit shipments are still used as the most commonly tracked measures in inventory visibility. This is also where most shippers are losing visibility.

Slightly more than one-half automatically check quantities and dates of advance shipments and commitments against purchase orders. Conversely, almost one half (46%) do not check!
The report was also trying to find the areas in which the companies are seeking improvement and found out that supply chain reporting and watching over customer compliance on service level agreements are among the top priorities as new initiatives.
