Has Ike caused disruption in chemical-related supply chains?
Filed in archive General on September 16, 2008

As you may all know, Ike storm has passed through Texas and has caused lots of losses. George W. Bush called Ike a disaster for Texas; many oil refineries and chemical plants were closed to reduce the damage and transport of such products were stopped...
Ike is clearly a supply chain disruption, especially for the companies which use chemical and petroleum related products intensively. They may not feel the effect of this problem as they may have enough inventory and no immediate need; however there is a degree of uncertainty about when the operation in Texas will be normal again.
I was wondering if any of you have heard about companies taking action in respond to Ike by looking alternative sources of supply, renegotiating terms with suppliers, etc...That would certainly be a best practice.
