Green supply chain management gains importance
Filed in archive Sustainability and Supply Chain on February 8, 2008
Being Green in supply chain has become a trend either for the sake of regulations, to keep the image or to just be a good corporate citizen (It's hard to believe the last one though!). This has been reflected in the Bearing Point's supply chain survey results too.
BearingPoint announced today the results of a survey that suggest that corporate image is one of the most significant motivations for U.S. companies to be "eco-friendly" in supply chain. The survey results were gathered from data from more than 600 executives from large firms around the world.
Seventy-one percent of U.S. companies report that they proactively market the "environmental friendliness" of their products to their customers, which is comparatively higher than the global average of 59 percent. Yet, U.S. companies lag behind their global counterparts in developing "green" supply chains, the process by which products and services get from design to delivery and the operational area of many enterprises that is widely believed to leave the most significant environmental footprint.
As Business Wire reported, the Bearing Point's research has shown that globally, the single-most important driver for companies to implement "greener" operations is regulatory compliance.
