Georgia Tech opens a new supply chain center in Costa Rica
Filed in archive Education on June 21, 2009
We have been witnessing a trend among U.S. based SCM educational institutions in the last couple of years and that's internationalization: MIT established a supply chain and logistics center in Spain some years ago (ZLC) and recently added some new members to this collaboration from Latin America and called it SCALE. I personally think the motivation for such expansions are creating more profit out of international program and projects. Apparently Georgia Tech. doesn't want to stay behind and is openning a new center in Costa Rica on Aug. 20, 2009.
The so called Georgia Tech Trade Chain Innovation and Productivity Center, which will be located in San Jose, is designed to teach graduate students and company executives how to improve supply chains and logistics. It will also serve as a research center in those fields, said Don Ratliff, executive director of Tech's Supply Chain & Logistics Institute. According to Global Atlanta, the president of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias Sanchez, is expected to attend opening ceremonies for the center as is Georgia Tech President G.P. "Bud" Peterson. The video below is related to interview in this respect:
During this video, Don Ratliff, the executive director for Supply Chain and Logistics Institute, discusses some of the objectives behind the establishment of this center such as:
- Improve opportunities for improving logistics education in those countries and do student and faculty exchange between two countries.
- Improve the trade and logistics collaboration between U.S. and the new countries
The new initiative is supported by some global companies, specially the ones which are located in Georgia (e.g. UPS).
