The deal is with Fortune 500 company First American Corporation, America's largest provider of business information. The company has adopted Ariba's on-demand procurement solution. For a 117 year-old business like First American to go on-demand with spend management is a sign that even large enterprises are opting for on-demand solutions over licensed software to more quickly drive deep process controls and efficiencies to lower costs and lift the bottom line.
As you know, the financial pressures of globalization, regulatory compliance and inflation are making it increasingly difficult for multi-national enterprises to compete and maintain a profitable business model. Spend management helps them overcome these issues while improving cost structure and profitability. It's not just about automating the procurement process anymore - it's about applying procurement science to every dollar of spend to lower total costs. Unless a business wants to leave money on the table, it has to combine technology, commodity expertise, services and easy access to a global supply base. Ariba is the only company to combine all of this with the single largest supplier network in the world. And by going on-demand, these companies can quickly and cost-effectively close the procurement loop and realize returns on their investment.

I wanted to mention that Ariba has brought tremendous efficiencies to corporations — streamlining the purchasing of office materials and raw materials that go into the production of everything from a loaf of bread to a corporate presentation to automobiles for over 40 percent of the Fortune 100. Today Ariba has become the preferred provider to a current 435 private and public B2B Marketplace customers and has over 30,000 suppliers for these marketplaces, so I'm sure the deal is with Fortune 500 is going to bring a lot of benefits on both sides.

Very true! For certain types of products (usually the ones with less uncertainty in demand) Ariba is an excellent option. I have also done an interview with Ariba Marketing director that you can find in the interview section. Thanks for your comment, Ehsan.

Well if large firms want a profit then they'll have to play by the rules right ? If they didn't what would happen to all those "little guys" who would want to enter the market ? What chance would they have ?

Yes, what Ariba is doing is quite interesting and I personally think that they will create something similar to workforce.com (CRM on demand) but in purchasing area.

Business at this level are never easy, i am surprised Ariba found the solution, but will it last long term? We'll see. Regarding all economical factor i would say that in 2 year Ariba has to come up with another brilliant idea to survive the market.

I am a vendor for a company that uses Ariba. Is it possible to avoid the charges we receive for direct deposit x opening a account in a bank Ariba uses?
