Develop a map of your supply chain for higher transparency
Filed in archive Best practice on December 6, 2007
It may be unbelievable but many logistics manager, especially in supply chains with multi-country operations don't have a clear view of how is the exact flow of material, info and money. Developing a map of your supply chain might seem really a basic thing but even if it is done at high-level, can make SC decision making much more effective.
Look for example, at this map here. It's about a Fair Trade Coffee supply chain: It clearly shows the suppliers, their offerings and the flow of material and money. You can also click on different parts of it and go more into detail.

I agree with that, sometimes when organization rapidly grows, we tend to get complicated picture of our own supply chain in mind. Mapping it out is a very good way to sit back, relax, view the map carefully and then carry on with the tactical strategic decisions by constantly referring to the map.
