Data management and forecasting remain top challenges in life science sector

Aberdeen Group recently published a new report aimed at providing ideas on supply chain strategies for life science sector. The results of the analysis done by Aberdeen were quite interesting as they highlighted that managing disperse product data and improving demand forecasts remain two top challenges in this sector.

Aberdeen mentions that before any SCM initiative, life science companies should focus on integration of the disperse data coming from different systems. This may require recruiting resources with specific expertise in data integration or outsourcing such task to business services firms.

The authors also propose companies to focus on value in demand management do projects such as automation in of Activity Based Costing; this way companies can attack the second challenge and also remove SKUs, especially the ones which have short life cycle and not profitable enough, from the portfolio.
