PRESS RELEASE CONTACTS: SEE * BELOW
FOR: CHANGZHOU, CHINA INDUSTRIAL ZONE(CND)
U.S. MANUFACTURERS EXPANDING OPERATIONS IN ZONE
New York, NY and Changzhou, P.R. of China, January 29, 2006 –
The CND, a major industrial zone in China, announced new activities and expanded
construction by an array of American manufacturers. Among the companies are a
Flextronics unit from a Chicago suburb; Chart Industries, whose corporate headquarters
is near Cleveland; Visteon Corp., based near Detroit; and a venture of several U.S semiconductor firms.
Mr. Zhu Yanning, Director of the Foreign Investment Bureau, attributed the growth
to the successful results the companies have enjoyed since they have been in the zone, and to their own increased business projections. He said, “The underlying factors were
low capital and manufacturing costs. Other reasons included enhanced tax incentives, stronger protection of intellectual property, and the outstanding human and infrastructure resources in the area”.
CND’s Chief Administrative Director, Mr. Yang Pingping, added, “Costs in the CND
are about half those found in China’s most economically developed locale, Shanghai,
and, are more than competitive than other perceived low-cost industrial zones such as in Mexico and Malaysia.”
** Flextronics doubled its CND capacity with a new, larger plant for the manufacture
of electronic and control systems for the telecom and computer markets.
** Chart Industries established Cryogenic Engineering Systems for R&D, Design and manufacturing cryogenic software and equipment.
** Visteon formed a joint venture with an automotive lighting systems company, to
serve the huge Asian market.
** The semiconductor enterprise is devoted to the manufacture of silicon steel plates,
wafers, and cores for electrical machinery, motors and generators.
Hundreds of foreign companies, from Europe, Japan, Korea, other Asian locales,
and from North America and elsewhere, presently operate in the zone. The U.S.
segment, currently about 15%, has been accorded the zone’s highest priority, particularly for medium- and high-tech companies. Other established American companies include GE,
Texas Instruments, Kohler, Ashland Chemical, Amphenol, and Goodyear._______________
