The FKI Logistex solution uses three FKI Logistex Library Mate® self-service check-in kiosks to automate the returns process for library items in circulation. An FKI Logistex cross-belt Compact Sorter, augmented by FKI Logistex Ergo Carts™ ergonomic book carts and volume containers, automatically sorts checked-in books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes for easy re-shelving.
The Malmö City Library chose the FKI Logistex solution because it reduces operating costs and offers enhanced features not available with manual systems or competing automated solutions. The new system reduces construction costs and eliminates the need for greenfield expansion as the entire system will be integrated into the existing facility.
"With the new system, the Malmö City Library can increase efficiency while significantly reducing labor-intensive and repetitive-motion tasks used to manually handle returned items," says Ken Cordes, director, FKI Logistex Library Solutions. "As a result, library staff can spend their time servicing and assisting library users in more meaningful ways."
